The Brownsville Local Development Company, Inc., dba The Business Development of Texas Fund, is a private, non-profit certified development corporation. It received its certification from the U.S. Small Business Administration on March 16th, 1982 in order to participate in the SBA 504 Program that offers small businesses affordable financing.
When the BLDC was first established it was limited to its designated area of operations which was the City of Brownsville and its environs. Most recently the SBA allowed CDC’s to operate within its State of Incorporation. For this reason, the BLDC’s Board of Directors, registered and adopted its new name in an effort to reach a broader market throughout the Rio Grande Valley and the entire State of Texas.
